American Horizons: The Photographs of Art Sinsabaugh

Sinsabaugh (1924-1983) made his impact in the early 1960s with a giant “banquet” camera that produced extreme wide-format 12 x 20-inch negatives. He went on to create B&W panoramas of the American landscape—from the rural Midwestern farm to the urban cityscapes of Chicago and Baltimore, the mountains and resorts of New England, and the deserts of the Southwest. Speaking of contemporary photography, I must check out this exhibition at David Weinberg Gallery before it ends April 12. The theme of the show is night landscapes and features works by German-born Sebastian Lemm and L.A.-based commercial photographer Amanda Friedman (above).

I'm looking forward to the Building Pictures exhibition which opens on April 4 at the Museum of Contemporary Photography. Mostly because there will be works by Dionisio Gonzalez (above) and Bas Princen, among others.

Stranger Photos Have Happened

I tied a disposable camera to a bench with a sign that read:

Good afternoon,
I attached this camera to the bench so you could take pictures. Seriously. So have fun. I'll be back later this evening to pick it up.
